Crisis Center EPIC FamilyHealing Through Guidance: Helping Miriam Overcome Personal and Parenting Challenges Amidst the War

Our Emotional Crises Center was established in response to the emotional traumas and fallout resulting from the war. The disruptions, fear, and uncertainty have deeply affected many families, and we have seen an influx of cases related to the mental health challenges these circumstances have created. One such case involved Miriam, who reached out to us in early November 2023, distressed over her oldest son’s deteriorating behavior.

With school closures and a lack of routine, Miriam’s son struggled immensely. He began sleeping late, isolating himself in his room, and spent the greater part of his waking hours on video games, which seemed to heighten his aggression and anger. The stress of the war’s impact on everyday life had taken its toll, and Miriam found her son’s interactions with the family—especially with her and his siblings—were becoming more strained and unhealthy.

Recognizing that these behaviors were a direct result of the fallout from the war, Miriam sought help from our Emotional Crises Center. Initially, we focused on parenting strategies within the framework of parental guidance to manage her son’s behavior. However, as we worked together, it became clear that deeper family dynamics needed attention—old parenting traumas, boundary issues, and relational patterns required healing for true progress to be made.

In response, we transitioned from short-term guidance to full psychotherapy, allowing Miriam to explore and heal past traumas, build relationship skills, and create healthier boundaries within her family. Baruch Hashem, Miriam has made tremendous progress, not only in managing her son’s behavior but in gaining insight into her own emotional responses that were impacting the family.

Today, Miriam continues to work with us. She has expressed deep appreciation for the transformation she has experienced, and as both her personal wellness and her family’s dynamics have significantly improved. Her journey demonstrates the power of addressing not just on the surface-level issues but also the deeper emotional challenges that affect family life, particularly during times of crisis.
